Will I Experience any Discomfort During Microdermabrasion Treatment? Does it hurt?

Skin treatments come with their benefits as-well-as downsides, depending on the way a particular treatment is done. Microdermabrasion is one of them, and you can go for this treatment to beautify your skin. It is more like an intense scrubbing routine which removes dead skin cells and reveals younger looking skin. Microdermabrasion also helps in removing fine lines, dark spots and sunburn spots.

How is it done?

Dermabrasion involves sandblasting of facial skin with micro-crystals using a device to remove the skin cells.

Then the face is vacuumed to remove all the crystals and dead cells. It takes around 20 to 30 minutes to complete the treatment for the face area. To soothe the skin after treatment, a topical cream is applied to facilitate absorption of skincare ingredients and protect new skin layer from damage.

The treatment can be got done at any cosmetic center, spa, dermatology clinic or at home with a specified microdermabrasion kit. However, it is advised that you should get it done from a trained dermatologist or beauty expert.

Should I get it done?

If you don’t have an ultra-sensitive skin or acne infection, you can go ahead with microdermabrasion treatment. Also, you should consult a dermatologist before going ahead in case you have a medical history, since certain conditions will make the treatment unsuitable for you.

Will it hurt me?

Thankfully, the treatment is painless and works only at the epidermis level. It is just like scrubbing your face. You might experience some itchiness, but as you get it done frequently your skin will get used to it. Your face might appear a bit reddish/pinkish but after a day it will return back to normal. Speaking of pain, you won’t experience any discomfort during the treatment which is a good sign. Also, you don’t need any pre-medication before microdermabrasion treatment.

Effects of the treatment

Microdermabrasion results in a smoother, even complexion with visibly brightened skin. You will be provided with sunscreen hydrating moisturizer post microdermabrasion treatment. You will be advised to avoid sun. The skin can feel dry in the first couple of hours after the treatment, but that completely perfect. This dryness will be somewhat like a sunburn. This is why you are provided with a hydrating moisturizer. Use a lot of moisturizer in the first few hours post treatment and avoid going out in the sun and exposing the skin for long hours.

Am I the right candidate for microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is not for people with weeping acne, diabetes, dermatitis, psoriasis, keratosis or for people with undiagnosed lesions. You must thoroughly discuss your medical history with the doctor before going in for Microdermabrasion.

How much does it cost?

On an average, microdermabrasion treatment cost anywhere between $75 and $200. The cost largely depends on the area where the treatment is to be performed. In some cases more than one sitting may be required which can be a reason for inflated price.
