No matter what your reason is for mole removal, you surely need to undergo a painful mole removal surgery. To prevent scarring after mole removal surgery, you need to follow the instructions provided by your dermatologist or doctor.

Here are some of the common ways to help you reduce scars after the mole removal surgery.

  1. Keep it hydrated

After mole removal surgery, doctor will send you back with a dressing over the treated area. But after that, you need to ensure that you take proper care of the treated area and keep it hydrated for better healing. For that, you need to rinse the area with clean water, gentle soap and further dab hydrogen peroxide over it with a cotton swab. Once the wound is clean, apply your moisturizer to keep it hydrated. You can also apply white petroleum jelly over the treated area. This will sustain proper amount of moisture, which will further accelerate healing and even reduce potential for scarring.

  1. Keep it covered

A bandage with an antiseptic pad or a sterile strip is sufficient for keeping small mole-removal wounds covered for better healing. But if your skin is sensitive to adhesives, you can use petroleum jelly to stick a bit of non-adhesive bandage to your healing wound. It will also prevent the formation of scars.

  1. Use scar treatment cream

Doctors will usually recommend you a scar treatment cream to prevent the formation of scars after the surgical procedures. Such scar treatment creams usually contain ingredients that are effective in preventing and treating scars. So, apply the recommended scar treatment cream two to three times daily for 12 weeks, or as suggested by your doctor.

  1. Massage the area

There are a number of studies that show benefits of massaging the surgical wound, it is therefore recommended to massage your wound daily to increase blood circulation in the affected area. Increased blood circulation means the necessary blood and nutrients to heal faster will reach the wound easily. This way there will be lesser risks of scarring. You need to massage the area for at least two minutes every day. Use a lotion or moisturizer to avoid friction on the area.

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure

The sun’s UV rays damage the skin, which delays the healing process. So, it’s advisable to avoid sun exposure after the surgical procedure. In case, you have to be under the sun, make sure you use a sunscreen with a very high SPF to protect the area against harmful sunrays.
