Things to Keep in Mind While Getting Belly Button Piercing at Home
Belly button piercing is one of the popular piercings as nearly 33 percent women have it, which is larger than the nose and ear piercing. The body piercing was shot into popularity after it was featured in crying music video by Aerosmith in 1993.
If you are looking to do it yourself, you should be careful and confident enough to that. Or it is better if you can your friend who is experienced in piercing at home. However, it is an easy piercing job to do.
Make sure to follow the methods given below:
Choose the Right Tools:
First of all, make sure you have the right tools for piercing, including…
- 14 Gauge Sterile Piercing Needle (No safety pin or sewing needle)
- 14 Gauge Belly Button Ring of Stainless Steel or Titanium
- Alcohol or Disinfectant Solution
- Body Ink Marker
- Piercing Clamp
- Cotton Swabs
- Pair of Gloves
Keep the Area Clean:
Make sure the area where you are going to do piercing is neat and clean. Clean your countertop as dirt and dust can make your piercing vulnerable to infection.
Wash Your Hands:
Use antibacterial soap to wash your hand. Afterwards, you can use latex gloves to make it safer.
Sterilize Your Tools and Equipment:
Clean your tools and equipment with alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. Immerse them in either of these solutions for few minutes. Take them out and let them dry naturally. This step ensure that your equipment are free fro germs.
Clean Your Belly Button:
Clean your belly button area to remove the debris. All you need to take some rubbing alcohol onto cotton ball and wipe the belly button from both inside and outside. Or you can try disinfected gel available at drug store for your navel.
Mark the Spot Where You Want to Have Piercing:
Use an ink market to mark the entrance and exit locations of the needle. Make sure that there is a 4 inch distance between the navel and pierced. Use mirror to check if the marks are aligned horizontally and vertically in standing position.
Apply Numbing Cream:
Obviously, pain and discomfort will be in your mind while going through the piercing. You can use numbing cream to reduce your pain. The numbing cream will block the nerve endings that are responsible for sending the pain signals to the brain. Use it half an hour before the process.
So, these are the things you must keep in mind while doing belly button piercing at home. Remember, you must be confident and careful to do the piercing, otherwise approach the professional.
