A Checklist to Take Care of Your Fresh Belly Button Piercing
Belly button piercing is one of the popular piercing styles. It is done on the outer flap of your navel. Most people get it done to look stylish and attractive. However, caring for your belly button piercing is extremely important to protect it from infection, swelling and other complications.
Here are the tips to take care of your new belly button piercing:
Avoid it touching with Contaminated Hands:
You are asking for infection by touching your fresh belly button piercing every now and then with contaminated hands. So, first of all, make sure to wash your hands with antibacterial soap before and after handling your belly button piercing. Otherwise, the dirt and oil can be passed on to your belly button piercing. Remember to keep your nails neat and clean.
Clean Belly Button Piercing Daily:
Not only cleaning the belly button piercing will offer protection against infections, but also speed up the healing process. All you need to use a cotton swab dipped in warm water to wipe and remove the debris accumulating near the area. Do it gently. Afterwards, add the amount of soap to your fingertips to massage the area for few seconds. Go to shower to rinse off the soap lather. Use paper towel to pat it dry. Do it twice in a day. However, avoid using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean your belly button piercing as it can irritate the skin. Don’t use ointment as it can cut off the supply of oxygen to the pierced area.
Saline Water Cleanser for Piercing:
Saline water kills the bacteria and speeds up the healing process. Just add ¼ tbsp. of sea salt into 236 ml of boiled water. Let the watercool down. Pour this saline water into small glass and lean over it so that the belly area can be covered by the top rim of the glass. Securely put the glass on your stomach and lay down on your back. Keep yourself in this position for 10-15 minutes and repeat the process once a day. Or you can dip a folded paper in the solution to give your pierced area a warm compress. Besides, use sea salt spray on the spot.
Avoid Removing the Jewelry Very Often:
Keep the jewelry in place for at least 6 months. This is your healing period. Removing the jewelry very often can affect the process of the body. It can close the piercing gauge, making it difficult for you to reinserting it.
